People with closed minds have reached their conclusions already, even when they do not know how to arrive at them. It is a futile exercise to teach them anything new, for they do not want to see a reality different from what they already believe. Many of Jesus’s contemporaries had already made up their minds to reject any new insights. Thus, when John came fasting, they accused him of being possessed. When Jesus came dining out, they accused him of being a glutton.
In the first reading, Isaiah says that our God will teach us what is best for us and lead us in the way we must go. Those who are open to God’s teaching will find peace, righteousness, and many blessings. The question is how do I approach God? With a closed mind? Or with an open one, willing to be taught?
