When I do to others what I would like others to do to me, it is not always the others that return the favor, but God. This is evident from Abram’s experience given in the first reading. Abram was generous in allowing Lot to make the first choice of land. As most people would do, Lot chose the better part, leaving the inferior land for Abram. But God blessed Abram for his act of generosity with promises of blessings beyond his imagination.
If we choose the narrow path out of love for God and neighbor, the path would definitely lead us to the wide field where we share life with God. Abram trusted God to lead him there. Do I trust God enough to reward me and therefore share my resources freely and joyfully with others?
